MH-SPI covers the complete AMGA SPI Course curriculum and adds: 

  • A 2 hour webinar on trauma-informed guiding practices

  • Understanding nervous system regulation for you and those who you teach

  • Creating inclusive and safe spaces within professional guiding

  • Basics of psychological first-aid

  • Integrating mental health practices into your guiding to create positive experiences for you and your guests

  • Yes, the MH-SPI covers the entire 27 hour curriculum required by the American Mountain Guides Association and is approved by the AMGA Program Manager.

    The MH-SPI expands on many topics and delivers content through a mental health lens.

    • You are a Professional Member of the AMGA.

    • You have a genuine interest in rock climbing and instructing novices on single pitch crags.

    • You are at least 18 years old at the time of the course.

    • You have at least 12 months prior climbing experience.

    • You are an active climber with traditional lead climbing experience (leader placing pro).

    • You have led a minimum of 15 traditional rock climbing routes (any grade).

    • You are capable of comfortably climbing 5.8 while on a top rope.

  • June 18th 6pm-8pm MST

    The 2 hour webinar occurs the Thursday before the course start date, and covers pertinent mental health content that will be used during the course.

    This will be held through zoom, with a link sent out a week prior to the course.
